What can I write about?
Had an epiphany about a problem? Reflected on a past experience? Or read something in the news that triggered you? At The Fledger, your writing possibilities are limitless. As a platform, we are politically neutral and we promote curiosity and healthy scepticism. You can write about anything that you're passionate about. Politics, social issues, environmental problems, activism, books, films -- anything! Just as long as it has a wider relevance to us all. And, we shouldn't have to mention this, but stay away from ideas like 'Why Earth is definitely flat'. Yeah... this was a genuine submission. Absolutely bonkers.
Is there a writing style I should follow?
The short answer is no. We believe that your own voice should leap out of the digital page. This means that you should write it using your language, tone, and personality. Be unfiltered. We also encourage you to open your heart and mind, and give a personal touch to articles you write by sharing a personal experience or two in your writing.
How long should articles be?
There is no minimum or maximum word count, per se. Write what you want to say, not what you're restricted to. That being said, most articles come in at around 1200 words. It all depends on what's in your head and how engaging you can make your piece!
Will I get paid?
Our main focus is on providing a platform for writers to showcase their work and gain valuable experience. That being said, we do provide a snowballing remuneration for each article we publish, starting commission-free for your first article and increasing up to a maximum of £100 per piece.
